Proper maintenance and care can significantly extend the service life of agricultural machinery bearings.
First and foremost, regular greasing is essential. For bearing housings equipped with grease fittings, fresh lubricant should be periodically injected both before and during operation. When greasing, observe carefully until the old grease is completely displaced by the new, which not only replenishes the lubrication but also helps flush out any minor contaminants that have entered. However, avoid over‑greasing to prevent overheating of the bearing.
Secondly, cleaning and inspection: At the end of each peak farming season, bearings in critical areas should be disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. Check the balls or raceways for pitting or rust, and ensure smooth, free rotation. If the seals are found to be aged or damaged, they must be replaced immediately, as seal failure will significantly shorten the bearing’s service life.
Finally, ensure proper installation. When installing agricultural machinery bearings, never strike the bearing end face directly with a hammer, as this can cause damage to the inner raceway or deformation of the cage. Instead, use a dedicated sleeve tool to press the bearing in evenly, or employ a hot‑fit method—such as oil‑bath heating or induction heating—to ensure the bearing is properly seated without sustaining any damage.
